Fit Tip: Exercise & Water Go Hand in Hand
With water making up 75% of our body it is no wonder it is extremely important for our bodies function, our health, and our workout. Humans can not survive for more then three days without water. Granted most food contains water but it is not a proper source of hydration. The problem is that most people in this day and age, replace water with soda and sugary drinks that dehydrate you even more!
Alcohol and caffeine cause rapid fluid loss due to the diuretic effect. No matter what you are drinking it can not replace water. Water is crucial for the body to function properly, so make sure to have adequate water consumption. If you wait until you are thirsty to drink water it is already too late!
You should be in-taking around a gallon a day of water not including what you drink during exercise. When exercising you will have a higher need for water because your body is perspiring while you workout to try and keep your body cool. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) suggest drinking an additional 20 ounces of water 2 hours before you workout. Forevery 1 hour of exercise in take at least a minimum of 24 ounces. During just one hour of working out your body can lose more than a quart of water! Imagine how much you’re losing in this heat! You should also intake a glass of water before you go to bed. Just like you need food for energy, your body needs water to function! Trust me you’ll wake up feeling tons better!
So make it your goal for this week to drink at least 10 glasses a day! You can do it!! You will be surprised by the energy you feel and your over well being will be heightened!
